How to split one dish by calories

  1. Weigh the cooked dish.

Without the pot. Say the chili weighs 2,000 g.

  2. Work out calories per gram.

Everything that went in adds up to 2,400 kcal. 2,400 ÷ 2,000 = 1.2 kcal per gram.

  3. Find each person's meal target.

Dinner is about 30% of the day. You eat 2,600 kcal a day, so dinner is 780 kcal. Your partner eats 1,700, so 510 kcal.

  4. Divide by calories per gram.

    780 ÷ 1.2 = 650 g for you, 510 ÷ 1.2 = 425 g for your partner. 925 g is left for tomorrow.

FAQ

Where do I get the dish's calories?

Add up the ingredients in your tracking app's recipe builder, or from the labels. Raw weights are fine for this part.

Why weigh after cooking?

Cooking adds or loses water, so the cooked weight is what you actually serve. Calories per gram of the cooked dish is what makes the split right.

What about protein and macros?

This calculator splits by calories only. Forkpals will size portions to calories and macros for the whole week.

Is my data stored?

No. Everything is calculated in your browser and nothing is sent or saved.
